Act and Rule
The main objective of the Kerala Panchayat Raj Act is to strengthen democracy through local self-government institutions and implement local development activities with the active participation of the rural people. It makes the Gram Sabha and the Panchayat the main centers of activity, plans are made according to the needs of the people, and provides an opportunity for the people to directly participate in the governance that concerns them. The preamble of this Act aims at development, people's welfare, corruption-free governance and responsible governance.
